My perspective: Not surprisingly, popular new shows like Vampire Diaries, Modern Family, and the NCIS spinoff have either already been renewed or will likely be. Likewise, struggling shows like Melrose Place probably won't, which is disappointing because the original series didn't pick up steam until its second season. And it ended up having a long and successful run. I'm not surprised to see that Heroes could go either way. I'm hopeful that ABC will give V and FlashForward another shot, though. A bit surprised that 24 is so questionable, but they might want to consider going out before the show becomes a parody of itself.

Interesting. I'm not sure I totally get it, though. Ratings on Castle (which I love) seem to be roughly the same, yet last year it was on the edge, could go either way, whereas this year they're saying it's a sure thing, not even a good bet. I wonder why that is.
Castle and Chuck are the ones I really care about that I thought might have been in question.
Actually (right after I posted), I realized that the ratings boost (which are roughly even with what the current season is doing) came in the last two episodes of the season, after this came out last year I think. So that might make sense.
Hopeful on Chuck as well.
Yeah, I don't pretend to understand how or why certain shows get picked up while others are dumped. Part of the reason I defended Heroes so much last season was that while they didn't necessarily bring in great numbers, they were bringing in desirable numbers demographically. And they were doing relatively well when compared to other NBC shows. The downside to the series was that I would imagine production values were also relatively high, and they have a rather large cast of fairly well known actors. So obviously there's a whole lot more to the decision than ratings.
I'm relatively certain most of these executives have no idea what they're doing, anyway.
