At this point I do think it's a legitimate firing, but I suspect it might be partly a work too. This strikes me as a "Okay, look, we're getting heat from Linda's campaign/Mattel (the two main culprits rumored), so we're going to let you go for now, but we'll bring you back as soon as the non existent heat because nobody except for a couple wusses in a toy company/political campaign actually cares blows over".

They didn't fire him immediately to make an immediate statement. They didn't wait til Tuesday so they could bury him on the way out. And they didn't publicly make a statement that they felt his actions were too violent and they don't condone that. It really sounds like a case of "Okay, we'll fire him to appease this one person/group/whatever, but we'll keep the door open for him to come back soon". It wouldn't shock me to see him go work a few RoH shows then come back, if he wants to. But we'll see.

At this point I definitely consider it legit, but the thing I find most striking is the severity of the punishment. I suppose I can understand some outside but influential force having an issue with them using an every day article of clothing against an innocent non-wrestler, but to fire the person over the incident? There's just no precedent behind that. Why not suspend him or fine him?

I can't say I agree that this is connected to Benoit at all, though. Just a few months after his death they had JBL hang Chris Jericho (the wrestler on the roster most associated with Benoit) with television cables. I think that connection is a stretch.

I do have a feeling this'll turn into a Matt Hardy situation, as many have suggested, with Bryan essentially continuing his part of the angle while not technically an employee, only to be resigned shortly thereafter. I just hope this doesn't kill the NXT angle, which had a lot of momentum going for it.
