So in some surprising news (for me, anyway), it was just announced by Entertainment Weekly that a spin-off to The Vampire Diaries -- which I review -- is being developed and will focus on original vampire/hybrid Klaus.

Personally, I like the idea. Angel proved to be a wildly fun and successful show, and the potential Klaus series seems to be following a similar formula. Additionally, this allows the characters of The Vampire Diaries to avoid the old "T-Bag Dilemma." In my view, the "good guys" on Prison Break often didn't come across as entirely heroic because they were continually doing things that kept T-Bag, a legitimately bad person, from being in prison. This happened because the writers loved the character so much, and that was the only way to keep him on the series. Giving a somewhat villainous character like Klaus his own series is a good way to prevent that from happening.
