So I decided to give True Blood a shot (yeah, yeah, pun not intended). HBO tends to provide awesome programming, plus I tend to enjoy vampire shows and Anna Paquin fascinates me. I mean, she's not hot by traditional standards. Sometimes she's not even pretty. But I can't help but find something about her physically attractive. I don't know what it is.
Oh, and not even a week after talking about how hot Jessica Stroup is, she appears in the first five minutes of this episode. That's gotta be a promising sign, right?
Anyway, this new series is about vampires attempting to integrate into society following the invention of a blood synthetic that quells their urge to feed. The first episode didn't get too much into the whole "equal rights," minority/sexual orientation allusions that I expect it to approach, but I did enjoy the realistic approach the show decided to take. Instead of doing another series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel, the writers seemingly asked themselves, "What would happen if vampires really existed, and if they lived in our neighborhood and went to our stores?"
Oh, and Anna Paquin's character, Sookie, can apparently read people's thoughts. Not sure what to make of that. Anyway, I enjoyed the first episode, and plan on tuning in next week.

True Blood reminds me of Heroes at first glance (just rented the first episode from Blockbuster), though the show still maintains an original feel... overall the show makes me want to eat Cajun food and drink beer
I feel like the show relies too much on it's unique theme and feels it doesn't have to actually have much in the way substance. I watched the first couple of episodes in which they spent the time explaining what the deal is with the vampires. But they didnt do so in a way that made me care, so after I got the point of how vampieres and humans interact in this world I wasn't interested enough in the specific characters to continue watching.
